West Melbourne, Florida · Brevard County
Website design, local SEO & Google listings in West Melbourne, FL.
West Melbourne exists because in 1959 the residents voted to create a city specifically so they wouldn't be annexed into Melbourne. Sixty-odd years later, most businesses here market themselves as Melbourne anyway — and in doing so pick a fight with a city three times the size, in the hardest local search market on this coast, when their own city is far easier to win.

The most expensive habit in this town
Web design and local SEO here: calling yourself Melbourne costs you.
It's an easy thing to do. Your mail says Melbourne, your customers say Melbourne, so your website and your Google profile say Melbourne. But those are two different cities with two different search markets, and one of them is considerably easier to win.
| West Melbourne | Melbourne | |
|---|---|---|
| Median household income | $92,986 | $66,991 |
| Per capita income | $42,080 | $38,249 |
| Population | 28,795 | Roughly three times larger |
| Land area | 10.9 sq mi one listing covers it |
Larger, more spread |
US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2024 5-year
Read the income row again. Median household income in West Melbourne is $92,986 against $66,991 in Melbourne — about 39% higher, across a city line most people can't point to on a map. If you're serving West Melbourne households and marketing as Melbourne, you're advertising to a less affluent market than the one on your doorstep.
The city was founded on this exact point
Voters incorporated West Melbourne in 1959 for one reason: to stop the area being annexed into Melbourne. The whole reason this city exists is that it isn't that one. Your Google profile can afford to agree.
What to change, and it's free
Your Google Business Profile address and service areas should say West Melbourne. Any web design work should name it in the body text, not just in the footer. If you serve both, name both — but don't erase the easier one.
Serve both, but rank in yours first
Nobody's telling you to turn down Melbourne work. Rank where it's winnable, build the reviews there, and let the bigger market come as your profile strengthens. That order is much cheaper than the reverse.
A market that's still filling up
Thousands of households have arrived since 2020.
West Melbourne has recorded the highest population growth percentage of any municipality in Brevard County since 2000, and it hasn't stopped.
people at the 2020 census.

A note on the bigger numbers you'll see quoted. Private population sites project West Melbourne at over 32,000 for 2026 and put growth above 20%. Those are projections, not measurements, and I'm not going to print a projection as though the Census said it. The measured figure — about 8% in four years — is still faster than almost anywhere else in the county, and it's the one I can show you.
What that means for a local business. Every one of those households arrived without a plumber, a dentist, a lawn service or a regular restaurant. They have a phone. That's the whole opportunity here, and it's why a finished Google profile is worth more in a growing town than a settled one.
What's being built right now
The city is building its own downtown. Literally.
Space Coast Town Center is a 225-acre master-planned development at U.S. 192 and the St. Johns Heritage Parkway, and its developers describe it as what will ultimately serve as the downtown center of West Melbourne. Total project cost has been put at $200–300 million.
| At full build-out | What that means for a local business |
|---|---|
| 2,000+ multifamily residential units |
In a city of under 29,000, that's potentially thousands of new residents from one development — and none of them will have a plumber, a dentist or a lawn service. |
| 360,000 sq ft office space |
Daytime population, which West Melbourne has relatively little of today. People who work somewhere buy lunch, dry cleaning and car repairs there. |
| 257,000 sq ft retail and restaurant |
More competition for some, more foot traffic for others. Either way, worth knowing before it opens rather than after. |
| 300 hotel rooms |
Visitors with no local knowledge at all, searching on a phone. The most map-dependent customer there is. |
Figures as published by the development's own team — plans at full build-out, not current
It isn't a rendering. The first residential building — a 300-unit, four-story block — was delivered in 2022, and retail already trading in the district includes Panda Express, Chipotle and 7-Eleven. In June 2026 a further 32.65 acres sold to a national investment group for The Landing at Space Coast, a grocery-anchored phase of roughly 77,750 square feet of retail plus 300 more apartments, with a second phase adding around 70,000 square feet after that.
This is the argument on this page, in concrete
A city that was founded to avoid being absorbed into Melbourne is now building a $200–300 million downtown of its own. West Melbourne is becoming more distinct from its neighbor, not less. Your Google profile should reflect that.
Rankings take three to six months. Buildings take years.
Which is the whole opportunity in the timing. A business that finishes its Google profile this year is the one those new households find when they move in. Fixing it after they arrive is too late for that wave.
And the city wants businesses here
West Melbourne has one of the lowest tax rates in Brevard County, and there's a joint Community Redevelopment Agency with the county covering parts of the city. Worth a call to the city before you sign a lease anywhere — that's free money that has nothing to do with hiring a web designer.
Counted, not guessed
Whether you can rank on Google Maps depends on your trade.
When I checked, I went through the businesses sitting in the map results across this area and counted what they actually have. The gap between trades is bigger than most people expect, and it should decide what you spend before anything else does.
| Trade | Reviews on the leading listings | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| General contractors | around 20 | The most reachable category I found anywhere on this coast. Twenty reviews is about four months of asking every customer. |
| Electricians | around 75 | Established. The leaders already have the technical side handled, so review volume is the whole contest. |
| Landscaping | around 90 | Competitive. Doable, but it's a longer climb and reviews decide it. |
| Restaurants | well over a thousand | Effectively closed to new entrants on reviews alone. A website won't fix this and I'll tell you so. |
My own count of the listings ranking at the time I checked — not published data
Those are Melbourne-area figures — which is the point of the section above. In West Melbourne specifically the competition is thinner across most categories, because far fewer businesses are targeting the city by name. Tell me your trade and I'll check both, free, before you spend anything.
What I actually do
Web design and local SEO, done together.
The website
Three to seven pages of web design depending on what you need. Fast on a phone, clear about what you do, and easy to call from — with West Melbourne named in the text, not buried in the footer.
The Google Business Profile
Claimed, completed, correct categories, service areas set to the city you're actually in, every service written out. Most people still call it Google My Business. It decides whether you appear on Google Maps at all. More on that here, or read the free checklist.
The month after
Hosting, updates, backups, changes when you need them, reviews requested and answered, and ongoing local SEO with a plain monthly report. Month to month, cancel any time.
What you own
If you ever leave, you take everything with you.
The most common complaint about the big website companies isn't price or design. It's finding out — at the worst possible moment — that the site they paid for was never theirs. I put it in writing instead, in English or Spanish, whichever you'd rather read it in.
Ask me anything before you commit- Your domain is registered in your name. Not mine. It always was yours.
- You get every login. Hosting, Google, analytics, email — handed over, written down.
- No contract to escape. Monthly plans are month to month.
- No fee to leave. No transfer fee, no release fee, no ransom on your own website.
Pricing
Web design pricing: same in West Melbourne as everywhere else.
Websites start at $800. Monthly plans start at $150, and the one most businesses want is $300. Setting up your Google profile on its own is $300 once, with no plan. Every price is published with a buy button beside it — and no, the highest median income on my list doesn't get quoted differently. If you already have a site that isn't working, start with the redesign page.
West Melbourne questions
What people here ask.
Should my listing say West Melbourne or Melbourne?
West Melbourne, if that's where you are. Your address and primary service area should match reality. If you genuinely serve both, add Melbourne as an additional service area — but don't replace your own city with a harder one you're less likely to win.
Won't I lose Melbourne customers by doing that?
No. Service areas are additive — you can cover both. What changes is which city you're most relevant for, and being genuinely strong in a city of under 29,000 usually beats being invisible in one three times the size.
Is West Melbourne really growing that fast?
Yes, though be careful which number you're quoted. The Census recorded 26,583 people in 2020 and estimates 28,795 in its most recent survey — about 8% in four years. Private population sites project over 32,000 by 2026, but those are projections rather than measurements. Either way, West Melbourne has recorded the highest population growth percentage of any municipality in Brevard County since 2000.
What's Space Coast Town Center going to do to my business?
It's a 225-acre development at U.S. 192 and the St. Johns Heritage Parkway, planned at full build-out for more than 2,000 residential units, 300 hotel rooms, 360,000 square feet of office and 257,000 square feet of retail — described by its developers as the future downtown center of West Melbourne. For most local businesses it means thousands of new customers who know nobody. For some retail and restaurants it also means new competition. Either way it's better to know now.
¿Puedo hacer todo esto en español?
Sí, todo — las llamadas, el contrato y la página si usted quiere. El español es mi primer idioma y no cuesta nada extra. Aquí está toda la información.
You're in Sebastian. Isn't that far?
About forty minutes up I-95, and I'll come to you. I also work in Melbourne and Palm Bay either side of you — the full list is here.
Will this get me to the top of Google Maps?
Nobody can promise that. Google's local results depend partly on how close the searcher is to you, and nobody controls that. What I can do is fix every controllable part and show you honestly what moved each month. Expect real movement in three to six months.
